Paws & Effect has undergone substantial changes since we released the NaNoReO demo in 2016. As the game prepares for (hopeful) release next month, we'd like to share some firsthand looks at the changes players can expect. Today, we'll look at some of the new backgrounds.

It should come as no surprise that Peaches and Pecan (whose names will likely be semi-customizable in the final game, if the originals aren't your jam) are heavily inspired by our own dogs, who are quite lovely and also crazy. It's only appropriate that the aesthetic quality of their world strive a little harder to match up. So we tightened the lid on the treat jar, saved some money, and worked with a background artist to reimagine all of our original backgrounds and then some. The differences in the attached images hopefully speak for themselves (seriously, we wish our own local park looked half that picturesque).

We hope that the investment in higher-quality backgrounds adds to people's overall enjoyment of the experience, and we're excited to show you the rest when the game launches.
