The only thing scarier than being captured by a vicious cult is wondering whether your hot bodyguard will return your affections. That's why, this Halloween, we're happy to share ver. 1.04 of Resident Evil 4: Otome Edition, the game's final major patch! There's a number of upgrades that expand and improve upon the base game. It's a good chance to jump in fresh or try another playthrough! Read on for a breakdown of the changes:

1) New achievement/bonus system: Harkening back to the pre-RE4 days when Resident Evil games had actual puzzles, we've introduced the aptly named "Puzzle" screen, accessible via the new Bonus option on the title screen. The Puzzle functions as an in-game achievement system, but with actual bonuses attached! Follow the hints, meet the conditions, and unlock picture clues - and then try to crack the code! Your reward? Bonus content! You may even have a few conditions unlocked if you completed an earlier playthrough...

2) New RPG battles in Chapter 3: The sixth episode of Chapter 3 (with the hallway regenerators) has been completely revamped to play out like an old-school RPG. Use Ashley's parasite powers to help Leon vanquish those trash beasts! Watch out, though: When Ashley gets too stressed, a new persona tends to appear...

3) RE4 VR Easter Egg: The 10th episode of Chapter 1 (meeting Luis) now has an alternative path that pokes fun at the changes made to the scene in RE4 VR. The decision even causes slight dialogue variations in later parts of the game, for the eagle-eyed among you.

4) Episode Select Upgrade: The Episode Select has been updated so that you can replicate more decisions when jumping between episodes, as well as adds romance trackers so that you can easily tell which love interests you're unlocking based on which choices. Hint: If you can guess the Merchant's real name, you'll automatically win his heart. Who knows what that is, though!

5) Quality of Life updates: A "load game" button has been added to the preloading section for faster returns to save files; some animations have been sped up; most remaining bugs have been squished. Little stuff that you probably wouldn't notice: For instance, if you choose Chapter loading, but use Episode Select to jump to an episode in the middle of a chapter, the game will now only preload material from that episode until the chapter end (as opposed to before, where it always preloaded the entire chapter). 

6) Miscellaneous content additions/removals: Some new lines were added here and there, while other lines were cut (or replaced with better jokes) in order to improve the experience.

We poured a lot of thirsty, snarky love into RE4: Otome Edition and we're finally at the point of being reasonably happy with its completeness.
